flip flops and painted toes

This was the highlight of my day...new flip flops and freshly pedicured toes!

Little man and I took our first trip to Phenix City to Bebe's and Grandaddy's...my mom was itching to get her hands on him and I was itching to have a day to aimlessly walk around in this beautiful sunshine! We of course had to stop by mom's office on the way in to let everyone get a peek of W. To say he got some attention is a tad bit of an understatement.... :)
In my last post...little man became Chunky Monkey...well a lady in mom's office commented on how long his toes were...she said that he had a foot of a monkey and he could climb a tree or even write with those long tootsies! It made me smile and of course instantly want to kiss those sweet feet! So I have begun to call him Monkey...

Anyway- back to our trip. Mom  gave me a gift card to one of the WONDERFUL spas in Columbus (I'm quite aware it was a plot to get me over here with Monkey- but no complaining from me!) So this morning I set out on my way, to a day that held in store for me a massage and a pedicure! Ahhh, it makes me smile just thinking about it!

WELL.....I will start off by saying I would get lost in my own neighborhood (B can vouch for this!) So I left 30 minutes before my appointment, to allow for any times of confusion I may have. I head in the right direction on the interstate, but miss my exit. (I blame this partly on my vision...I have not had my contacts for the last week...who has time to order, much less pick up contacts with a newborn!?!?!) Well, I call mom and she redirects me....so I'm still good, on time and now really headed in the right direction. I follow the directions I was given and somehow can't find my destination. I was starting to get a little anxious, with only 3 minutes to spare I end up on a dead end road in Home Depot's parking lot. Not exactly the spa atmosphere I was dreaming of! Confused in a town I know nothing about...I call the spa. The sweet girl at the desk asks where I am and immediately says, "awee! we moved locations, we are now across town." Really?????? Argh! My complete day of relaxation is beginning to make me quite tense at this point. So I listen carefully to the directions she gives me, change lanes, and hang up the phone. Only to forget everything she just said. (I feel the need to put a disclaimer: I have a newborn, I am a bit sleep deprived and I am not good with directions) Back on the phone with mom and 45 minutes later I find the "true" right direction to head. Once in the "area" of the spa...I pass it 3 times before finally seeing the sign (remember the contact situation?!?!) Tears were forming at this point....I arrive at the front desk for that sweet girl to tell me, "well, you have 5 minutes left of your massage...oops, no you don't. you've missed it all together." So naturally I smile politely and say that's ok, I will just take my pedicure. When inside I was screaming...couldn't you have told me you changed locations and couldn't you have a sign bigger than a postage stamp on the outside of your building??? But, I waited quietly for my turn to have my tootsies pampered.

All in all, my pedicure was simply delightful and worth all the troubles of the morning. I was reminded of the verse I have posted in our kitchen....to "Rejoice, again I say rejoice!" When the things of my day go hay-wire or at the last minute plans change, B is constantly reminding me that God ordained for it to happen, so it's ok...so I sat in my comfy pedicure chair rejoicing that I at least made it there and was able to have an hour of simply sitting and being still. I love how God can show Himself in ways I least expect and not really looking for!

My mom insisted that I stay away for a while and have some me time. I have to say, I enjoyed it so much! I really didn't know what to do - so I found a parking spot in a nearby shopping center and just walked! These past few weeks have been so cold and dreary and I have cabin fever some kind of bad! So to get a dose of Vitamin D did my body sooooo much good! The weather was beautiful and again all I could do was REJOICE!
I did do a little browsing and found these flip flops on sale at TJ Maxx, I couldn't resist them on my newly painted toes....

Back at home, my little monkey was having a blast! Mom told me if he was up-she would be playing with him. So they spent the afternoon chatting, giggling and just having that special time between a grandmother and her grandson.

How thankful I am that I've been blessed beyond measure...even when it comes to flip flops on sale, much need sunshine and painted toes...I will remember to REJOICE for He gives me what I need, exactly when I need it!

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice!" Phil 4:4

Chunky Monkey

Chunk Monkey...yep, this describes little man! We went to the doctor for his 1 month check up and here are his new "stats"...

weight: 10lbs 3oz   (hence the reason for the new nickname!)
height: 23 in (he is in the 95th percentile for his height...which was quite suprising as we are not tall people!)

He had to get a shot and his blood drawn. He did great for the sweet nurse drawing his blood, but the shot - OH MY! I only thought I had heard his little lungs, but quickly found out that I hadn't quite heard what he was capable of until the shot! Poor guy!

His cord is STILL there...it's honestly about to drive us crazy and I would love to snatch it off! We can't wait to be able to submerge his little big belly in the warm water during bath time! He sits with his lip quivering, it's quite sad if I say so myself! Dr. Wood, his pediatrician, said that it would fall of within the next 2 weeks...so until then we live with the cord. Argh!
On a side note: She said the reason he still had it was that he just didn't want to let go of the little piece of momma he still had - obviously that's not the case - but secretly it made my heart smile :) I know the time that he loves on his momma will be short lived once he is old enough to become Bryant's sidekick! So I will take whatever I can get!
Did I mention we LOVE Dr. Wood??? She is amazing and I am thankful that she is little man's doctor. Every time she examines him she kisses the back of his head - so sweet and genuine! She is very encouraging to a first time mom as well, and will sweetly answer all of those "crazy questions" that I come up with!

Just a few things about the little monkey...
-he is eating 4-5ozs every 3-4 hours
-he is on formula only now, and LOVES it!
-he is sleeping great (most nights) he wakes up around 2-3 and then again 5-6
-he is loosing his hair on the top - so he has the old man hair style...quite funny!
-he is wearing 0-3 month clothes (we have to accommodate those long legs!)
-he has the funniest expressions and is starting to smile back at us
-he follows you with his eyes and loves to be talked/sung to...he will start cooing back at you
-he has the sweetest personality and is a wonderful baby...but I could be bias?!?! :)

Here are a few pictures from Jan/Feb...there are a lot of "firsts"

 First trip to church
 First time on activity mat
